The Fox Valley Area High School Glass Exhibition at Bergstrom-Mahler Museum of Glass will open on Saturday, March 4^th to showcase talented young area artists in celebration of national Youth Art Month. Among the 242 students from 16 area schools who participated are students of Brenda Mullard from Neenah High School. Ms. Mullard has been bringing her students to work in our studios since 2012 and says, “We are so fortunate to have an educational resource like the Bergstrom Mahler Museum right here in our own community. Students are able to learn glass techniques by working side by side with professional glass artists. More important, this experience shows kids that you can do what you love, especially in an art career, and still make a very good living.”

Students had the opportunity to work with area neon artist, Jed Schleisner on a collaborative project. Schleisner worked with students individually to teach them to bend glass tubing over a torch. Each student successfully created a 90 degree bend. Schleisner then combined the individual work into a sculpture, filled it will krypton and neon gas and electrified it.

In addition to the neon experience, students learned glass fusing techniques from area artist, Sara Rezin. Works from the students are shown below.
