Museum Launches Mobile App

Bergstrom-Mahler Museum of Glass announces the release of a mobile application that showcases its world-renowned collection. The free application can be downloaded from the Google Play Store.
The mobile application allows the user to experience the museum collection through three tours that include “Millefiori: Thousands of Flowers,” “Flowers from Flame,” and “The Mahler Collection of Germanic Glass Drinking Vessels.” Each of the tours brings the users an intimate view of the collection objects.
The application was developed with the help of Google with additional support from a capacity-building grant from the Community Foundation for the Fox Valley Region. Grant funds are being used in a project to photograph 1,000 objects and create a searchable collection database for the museum. Without digital object images of the collection, the museum staff could not use this technology to engage its audiences.
The mobile application adds another avenue of digital interaction with the museum collection. The collections at Bergstrom-Mahler Museum of Glass are also available to off-site audiences through the Google Cultural Institute. Users can view object images and take a virtual tour of the museum building.
