The Fox Valley Area High School Glass Exhibition at Bergstrom-Mahler Museum of Glass will open on Saturday, March 4th to showcase talented young area artists in celebration of national Youth Art Month. Among the 242 students from 16 area schools who participated are 13 students of Erin Culligan from Menasha High School.
Students worked with Appleton artist, Sara Rezin from of Rezin Studios on fusing techniques which included working with diamond grinders to shape glass pieces. Students also worked with another Appleton artist, Beth Wenger Johnstone of Bumblebead Studio to learn glass flame working techniques using propane and oxygen torches.
Culligan says some of the benefits to the students are that they are working with a new teacher and that they have the opportunity to work over a torch, which is something she cannot provide at Menasha.
She added, “It’s good for them to see the museum in their community and the art exhibits to experience art outside the classroom.”
