The Fox Valley Area High School Glass Exhibition at Bergstrom-Mahler Museum of Glass will open on Saturday, March 4th to showcase talented young area artists in celebration of national Youth Art Month.
Sixteen students of Lynn Zetzman from Xavier High School worked in The Glass Studio. With artist, Sara Rezin, they did free-form fusing and used diamond bit grinders to shape glass for their their projects.
They also did flame working with artists, Tom Galbraith who taught them to manipulate borosilicate glass. They made icicles that will be part of a larger installation in the Mahler Gallery.
Zetzman likes the fact that her students are able to tap into someone else’s expertise and broaden their exposure to different art mediums in The Glass Studio.
She says, “The students are excited to work with glass, especially the flame working. The fire feels exciting and challenging – dangerous even though it is in a controlled environment.”
Here is some of their work.
