Art Activity Day – Fused Glass Features

Remember of the fun of playing with Mr. Potato Head? Join us in The Glass Studio for a fun-filled activity of making your own fused glass features. Each participant will be given several different glass shapes including eyes, ears, nose, mouth and even a hat. You will then be able to decorate these pieces however your heart desires. After the pieces are fused in the kiln, you can stick them in a real potato and see how creative you can be. Projects are $15 each.

This is a drop-in activity. You do not need to register. Please pay at the event.

Open Weave Glass Baskets

Create a basket out of glass! Students will create a 7” fused glass basket from layers of colorful glass strips. Baskets will be fused and slumped into an open weave shape perfect for a display or for holding breads at your dinner table. All experience levels welcome.

Girl or Boy Scout Tour with Activity – April 2017

Discover the art of glass at Bergstrom-Mahler Museum of Glass. Girl or Boy Scout groups can tour the museum and create a fused glass sun catcher. Items will need to be fused and will be ready for pick up approximately one week after tour and can be shipped for a fee. Projects are $15 each. Adults may participate for the same fee. Registration is required one week prior to the event. Scouts must be accompanied by leaders and/or parent chaperones. Adult: scout ratios are required for all tours and activities.

Introduction to Glass Beadmaking

Basic bead making techniques will be covered in this three hour introductory class. Learn about safe and proper handling of equipment, tools, and materials. You will learn how to pull stringers, layer color, and apply surface decoration. By the end of the class, you will have created several of your own glass beads.
Level: Beginner.  Ages 16 and up or at least 13 and must be accompanied by an adult

Earth Day Recycled Glass Fun

Come with the whole family and celebrate Earth Day by using recycled glass to create beautiful one-of-a-kind work of glass art. You will make a bottle flower pot to plant a seed, use recycled window glass to create a sun catcher and see how to cut a glass bottle into pieces to be re-purposed. Special considerations when using recycled glass will be discussed and you will go home with a lot more knowledge about recycled glass and how you can make it into an art masterpiece. Pieces will be fused in our kiln after class and available for pick-up at a later date. This is a drop-in activity. Please arrive before 11:30am so you will have enough time to finish your project. All experience levels welcome.

Wine Bottle Hanging Lanterns

Bring a wine bottle to the museum and make it into a hanging lantern for your garden or patio. You will learn the process of bottle cutting using a scoring tool, a candle and a bucket of ice water. We will discuss several ways to create art from recycled bottles and students will learn how to wire their bottle into a candle holder. Cheese and wine will be provided. Please remove labels prior to class.  All experience levels welcome
