Girl or Boy Scout Tour with Activity – May

Discover the art of glass at Bergstrom-Mahler Museum of Glass. Girl or Boy Scout groups can tour the museum and create a fused glass sun catcher. Items will need to be fused and will be ready for pick up approximately one week after tour and can be shipped for a fee. Projects are $15 each. Adults may participate for the same fee. Registration is required one week prior to the event. Scouts must be accompanied by leaders and/or parent chaperones. Adult: scout ratios are required for all tours and activities.

Art Activity Day – Personalized Pendant or Set of Earrings

Wine Bottle Hanging Lanterns

Bring a wine bottle to the museum and make it into a hanging lantern for your garden or patio. You will learn the process of bottle cutting using a scoring tool, a candle and a bucket of ice water. We will discuss several ways to create art from recycled bottles and students will learn how to wire their bottle into a candle holder. Cheese and wine will be provided. Please remove labels prior to class.  All experience levels welcome

Intensive Borosilicate Lampworking with Tom Galbraith 2 Day Class

2 DAY CLASS
Saturday-Sunday, June 24-25, 2017, 10am-4pm (both days)

In this course, we will explore basic lampworking, including hollow tube and solid rod techniques. We will first review basic lampworking skills such as pulling points, fire cutting, scoring, and rotation skills. Using solid rod, we will create marbles, pendants, earrings and other jewelry forms. With the hollow tubing, we will construct small ornaments, perfume bottles, and small vessels. We will further dive into the intricacies of gold and silver fuming which allows us to create iridescent colors. We will also learn to use opal, metal, and dichroic glass as inclusion elements that can add increased luminescence to our creations.
This class is ideal for those who have some lampworking experience. Individuals with beading, welding, or other torch work will be a good fit for this class. Glass shop safety will be reviewed in this course, we will emphasize proper eyewear, clothing, and sound practices to ensure a safe and positive environment. Over the course of this two-day class, students will not only be able to create pieces of their choice, they will also learn techniques to further facilitate their glass creations after the course is complete.
