Executive Director’s Message

We did it!!

On behalf of the Board of Directors and staff, I am delighted to announce that Bergstrom-Mahler Museum of Glass has again achieved accreditation by the American Alliance of Museums, the highest national recognition afforded the nation’s museums. Accreditation signifies excellence to the museum community, to governments, funders, outside agencies, and to the museum-going public. I am deeply indebted to the support of the Board and to our amazing staff. It truly was a huge team effort in achieving reaccreditation.

Originally awarded American Alliance of Museums accreditation in 1974, the museum is one of only 21 museums in the State of Wisconsin to currently be accredited and of that 21, one of only 11 fine art museums to be accredited.  Of the nation’s estimated 33,000 museums, only 1,103 are currently accredited.

Recognized as the field’s gold standard for museum excellence for over 50 years, American Alliance of Museum’s accreditation signifies a museum’s quality and credibility to the entire museum community, to governments and outside agencies, and to the museum-going public. The American Alliance Accreditation Program brings national recognition to a museum for its commitment to excellence, accountability, good governance practices and ethical behavior, high professional standards and continued institutional improvement.

We are so grateful to American Alliance of Museums for their support and believing in Bergstrom-Mahler Museum of Glass for 48 years. Through a rigorous process of self-assessment and review by our peers, we demonstrated that our museum meets American Alliance of Museums best standards and practices.

With gratitude,

Amy Moorefield

Executive Director
