Spark Fun: Hot Glass Demos

SPARK FUN:
HOT GLASS DEMOS

FLAMEWORKING DEMONSTRATION

Groups are able and encouraged to schedule private flameworking demonstrations. Demonstrators narrate their way through the glass art making process. Topics like thermal shock, amorphous solids, states of matter, and annealing are included. The artist utilizes techniques that are similar to ones used in artwork in the museum’s collection. Demonstrations can last anywhere from 30 minutes to 1 hour.

Fee: $60 up to 15 people ($15 fee increase per additional 10 people)

GLASS BLOWING DEMONSTRATION

Our glass blowing demonstrations are live educational experiences providing an insight into working with various hot glass techniques. The museum’s glass blowing demonstration provides an informative and entertaining look at what glass is, how it behaves at high temperatures, and how people manipulate glass to create beautiful works of art. The demonstration is appropriate for ages 5 and up, with older groups getting more advanced information. The demonstration lasts about an hour. Seating will be provided. The type of glass pieces being made will vary depending on the artist demonstrating.

On-Site Fee: $200 up to 15 people ($15 fee increase per additional 10 people)

Off-Site Fee: $500 (plus travel fees based on distance traveled)

• Group glass blowing demonstrations are charged a $25.00 administrative fee (per group) for any reservation or registration cancellation made less than 14 days prior to the scheduled activity.

• Group demonstrations may reschedule 14 or more days in advance of the event without penalty. There is a $25/student rescheduling fee for all glass demonstrations rescheduled less than 14 days.
