Introduction to Beadmaking

Basic bead making techniques will be covered in this three-hour introductory class. Learn about safe and proper handling of equipment, tools, and materials. You will learn how to pull stringers, layer color, and apply surface decoration. By the end of the class, you will have created several of your own glass beads.
Level: Beginner, but all experience levels are welcome.  Ages 16 and up or at least 13 and must be accompanied by an adult.

Try a bit of everything. You will have a chance to try flameworking and fusing all in one class. Basic beadmaking on  a torch while adding color and surface decoration will be covered. You will also create a fused piece of art, learning the basic properties of fused glass.  All experience levels welcome.

Discover the art of glass at Bergstrom-Mahler Museum of Glass. Girl or Boy Scout groups can tour the museum and create a fused glass sun catcher. Items will need to be fused and will be ready for pick up approximately one week after tour and can be shipped for a fee. Projects are $15 each. Adults may participate for the same fee. Registration is required one week prior to the event. Scouts must be accompanied by leaders and/or parent chaperones. Adult: scout ratios are required for all tours and activities.

Make a Drinking Glass from Bottles

Bring three beer or wine bottles to the museum and make them into drinking glasses. You will learn the process of bottle cutting using a scoring tool, a candle and a bucket of ice water. We will discuss several ways to create drinking glasses from recycled bottles. Cheese and wine will be provided so you can try your freshly made glasses right away. Art Activity Day – Make a Gingerbread House
