Haitian House, Thermon Statom

Therman Statom (American, b.1953) Haitian House, 1994. Mixed media – Plate glass, blown glass, acrylic paint, colored pencil. 14 x 10 x 9 in. A small blue house form with attached canes and glass shards. Door openings on two ends reveal 3 stacked painted glass dice and additional canes and glass shards inside. Gift of Herbert and Jane Rozoff

SPARK! is a cultural program for people with early- to mid-stage memory loss AND their care partners. (Not the general public)

We’ll be decorating our own houses, but first, we’ll spend some time learning about Therman Statom by observing his piece, Haitian House. We’ll talk about materials used, the ideas behind his artwork, and how we choose to decorate our houses. After conversing about our houses and how they’re decorated, we will be painting and drawing on Bird houses just like Therman.

SPARK! programs welcome care partners to stay actively engaged in their communities while joining peers to experience art, culture and nature in a comfortable environment with specially trained staff and volunteers.
