Reinterpreting Iconography in Glass (Visiting Artist Workshop)

Friday, October 7, 2022 | 12:00 PM-3:00 PM
Registration Cut-off Date: Wednesday, October 5, 2022

This is a 2-part class.  The artists ask that you attend both sessions.

  • Friday, October 7 – 12pm-3pm
  • Saturday, October 8 – 12pm-3pm

Inspired by their shared passion for Tibetan Buddhist Thangka painting, artists Anna Boothe and Nancy Cohen collaborated to create “Between Seeing and Knowing” (opening October 7th  in the Mahler Gallery at the museum). In developing their installation, the artists studied the structural elements of these paintings — their composition, shape, color, and symbolism.

On day one, the class will begin with a discussion in the gallery to create the foundation for this workshop. Similar to the artist’s approach, workshop participants will examine and respond to images of these paintings through drawing and collage. Day two will be studio-focused, where students will use a variety of techniques and approaches to translate these explorations into layered paintings in fused glass.

All Experience levels welcome
