I began volunteering in The Museum Shop in 1980, shortly after moving here from Illinois.
I knew nothing about glass or retail or even art, so I just started picking up information about our permanent collection as well as art on temporary display. The museum then had a 3rd grade program which brought in lots of kids, and there was a need for more docents, so I decided to learn even more. That program allowed me to learn a lot about glass techniques, but giving tours taught me even more about how to communicate the magic of glass with visitors.
